Susan Harwood, soprano, is a native of Stamford, New York. She has sung in church choirs for most of her life. A graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen, Michigan, she completed the BM in Voice Performance from New England Conservatory, Boston; the MM in Voice Performance from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and the DMA in Voice Performance from Peabody Conservatory of Music of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She is currently Associate Professor of Music and Coordinator of Voice at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, where she was also a member of the choir at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Dr. Harwood has performed at the Kennedy Center with Theater Chamber Players, at Bruno Walter Auditorium of Lincoln Center with Largely Ludwig, with Easterly Chamber Players, Concert Artists of Baltimore, Concertante, Trio Lyrica, and the Saint Rose Camerata as a soloist in works of Lassus, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Richard Strauss, Villa-Lobos, Chausson, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and many other composers. She has also appeared in solo recitals in Knoxville, Dallas, New York and with the York Symphony, Johns Hopkins Symphony, and the Knoxville Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Harwood has enjoyed a career as a teacher of voice and voice related subjects in several institutions of higher learning, and has worked with many singers in master classes and with young professional singers in voice-intensive training programs.
